Terminal apps
This is the page listing all the unix programs
I've ported to the mac under osx.
<
Most of the programs come with source, and have a mac specific readme
file (readme.osx) where appropriate, explaining the differences in the
source required to compile under osx, and any general information that
may be required to use the program itself.
This is a program for bookport and bookcorrier users.
It's called UBT, and is compatible with both ppc and intel macs.
The main page for the ubt tool is:
http://www.nfbcal.org/~buhrow/ubt/.
The source is located on that page, and there is an OSX universal binary
located here. (ubt.zip).
If the previous link doesn't work for some reason, you can download the
0.93 version from this server.
ubt-0.93.tar.gz
Below are programs compiled for osx that work in terminal mode. (basically, the unix portion of osx)
These programs should be useful, but are of course not guaranteed.
muddle
This is a copy of a mud client I used under linux. I liked it, so compiled it for the mac.
This is a universal binary, so it should work on intel or ppc macs.
Download muddle here.
sc
This is a spreadsheet program that runs in terminal mode, and was
shamelessly swiped from a slackware distribution.
Changes have been made to make it compile under osx, but none of the
functionality of the 7.16 version of sc has been modified.
At the moment, the archive includes the program, man pages, and a tutorial about how to use sc.
The source is not (yet) included, because I've not marked the OSX necessary changes in it, when that's done, it'll be included too.
Run sc with the command:
sc tutorial.sc
to find out about how it works if you've not used it before.
download sc 7.16 from here.
bwbasic
This copy of Biwater Basic was modified to compile on OSX, and the sources
are included along with the compiled binary for those who need it,
along with full documentation.
OSX specific information is in a file called readme.OSX, and it can be
donloaded here.
Biwater Basic 2.10
UnARJ
This is a utility to allow unarchiving of arj files on OSX. It's taken from the
unarj265
and was compiled on a leopard system.
This is a universal binary, so will work on either intel or ppc macs.
unarj 2.65
LHA
This is an OSX version of lha archiver/dearchiver. It's syntax is
similar to arj, and will work on lha, and lzh files.
This is a universal binary, so it will work on both ppc and inel-based
macs.
Download
lha-114.zip and copy the lha program to
your
/usr/bin folder.
Rar
Rar is another archiver available on other platforms, and this is a version compiled for mac osx. It's a universal binary, and should be copied to the /usr/local/bin directory. This is a command-line program, and runs from the terminal.
rar.zip
Sirc irc client
Sirc is an irc client for osx. It works in
the terminal, and will need to be installed by running the install
script before you try to use the sirc program.
Don't worry if you don't have the developer tools installed, it will
still work anyway, since I've included a copy of the ssfe program
compiled as an osx universal binary.
See the readme.osx file for details on installation.
after running the install script, then just type sirc at the shell
prompt, and it will start up for you.
Hope folks find this irc client useful.
Abermud
abermud is a mud-type program you can run on
your local machine, to see if mudding really is for you. It's
relatively simple, but it's still a decent game, so if you've considered
a mud, or don't know what one is, or just want to play a fun game,
download this one, and have at it.
