Voice Over accessable Software

Software accessible with voiceover.

There has been some questions as to what software programs are compatible with voiceover (Apple's built-in screen reader for OSX Tiger)  Here is a partial list of usable software.  I'm sure this is by no means exhaustive, and it will change over time, but it should get you started.

First, the apple software included with Tiger.

Completely accessible apps include:

Apple script, Calculator, Chess, IChat, Mail, preview, safari, sherlock, quicktime, system preferences, and textedit.

Under the utilities folder, there are a number of accessible apps.  These include:

activity monitor, airport admin utility, airport setup assistant, bluetooth file exchange, console, Disk Utility, keychain access, network utility

Programs shipping with Tiger that are vo compatible with some work include:

Address book, Dashboard, Dictionary, and DVD player.

Third-party programs that are accessible right out of the box include:

Alpha Baby

Audio Hijack

books

flip for mac

Mac the Ripper

shiira

spark

stuffit lite (6.5)

World Book 2006 (Scott Howell)

Greg Kerney programs

Turbo braille

Kafka's Daytime programs

CSpeech for MAC OS 10

Katie Player

Siegel Software Connection programs

Softcon Audio Burn

Softcon DVD Player

softcon pdf viewer

Third-party apps that are accessible with some work include:

Audacity

OSXNews

Read Iris version 11 (Scott Howell)

Toast version 7 (Scott Howell)

Programs that don't work with voice over include:

Microsoft Office

Firefox web browser

Obviously, we need to work out a method of determining which apps work well, which ones can be made to work, and which ones don't work at all.  Suggestions are greatfully accepted.

Email them to software@softcon.com, and we'll incorporate them here.

We hope this helps.
